24th February 2017 – Quote of the day

Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.

“Knowledge speaks, but Wisdom listens.” Jimi Hendrix

“A Wise person knows that there is something to learn from everyone” – Poster Quote (Not sure the originator)

The first is one of my favourite quotes, and one I tend to adhere to as much as possible. Mainly because it speaks so many truths. I’m an avid listener rather than a talker (mainly because I hate the sound of my own voice :D), to spread knowledge is great but to broaden the horizons of your own knowledge is much is greater, knowledge is power after all!

A-wise-person-knows-that-there-is-something-to-be-learned-from-everyone.jpg

I slightly disagree with the second; I would say a knowledgeable person knows there is something to be learned from everyone. Where-as a wise person would know how to use that information to either aide themselves or others with the new acquired information. But yes you can learn so much from other people, with just a little in depth observation, whether in conversation, watching them perform an act or just in a more general sense.

If Knowledge is information or a tool, then Wisdom is the understanding and application of said information or the craft within which you use said tool.

Unfortunately we can gain a lifetime of knowledge, yet never see the wisdom in it.

Happy 14th February

Just a little shout out to all my Single friends and bloggers. I hope you have an amazing day on yet another hyped up, commercialised day of worship to another mystical glorious Saint! I dislike this day for two reasons:
1: It’s ridiculously commercialised, everywhere’s busy and everything costs twice as much.
2: My ex’es birthday was on Feb 11th so this time of year was a double whammy in monetary terms LOL

Just because you’re ‘alone’ today doesn’t make you any less of a person. You keep being the best YOU that you can be and I’m sure someone will come along one day and show you how much they love and worship you every day, not just on Valentine’s Day!

I don’t look at people celebrating today with their partners with distaste, just don’t forget to not neglect your significant others for the other 364 days in the year (for a start it’s cheaper on any other day 😉 )

The Rule we never Heard

Have you ever come across a term or rule that we all follow but never knew about?

Heard

So, the other day I was traipsing through the World Wide Web as you do, and I came across an historic rule in which we all live by in the way we structure our sentences. Now the complex derivative of the alphabet and language has always astonished me. It just doesn’t seemingly make sense in my head that at some point in time communication and the symbolism of lines that create these words and letters could just come to be.

Anyway, on my travels I came across this excerpt from a book called: The Elements of Eloquence (catchy huh!) in which it denotes that;

“Adjectives in English absolutely have to be in this order: opinion-size-age-shape-colour-origin-material-purpose Noun. So you can have a lovely little old rectangular green French silver whittling knife. But if you mess with that word order in the slightest you’ll sound like a maniac. It’s an odd thing that every English speaker uses that list, but almost none of us could write it out.”

Being someone with a particularly dirty mind, my first thought was; “So that’s why I fucking love cake, and don’t love fucking cake?!” Excuse my French, but I did make myself chuckle!

Now for something that I’d never heard of, or even thought about, it makes complete sense. I was pretty fascinated that there are rules out there that everybody follows without even knowing it and if you were to disobey that rule then everybody would know instantly. After this I went on and did a little research and realised that there really are an amazing number of subtle techniques and applications to speaking English that must make it so difficult for outsiders to learn! It’s the subtle difference’s like when we record a record or present a present or tell a rebel to rebel. It’s a difference that is very hard for people to learn, and is the main reason that, in a strong French accent, there’s no difference between happiness and a penis.

05th December 2016 – Quote of the day

“Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.” – Bill gates

“Whatever you do in life, surround yourself with smart people who will argue with you.” – John wooden

42d3d321ac55eaf243160ab8b08a2810

We, as a group, find that surrounding yourself with individuals that think to a higher intellect, most discussions will get picked apart and debated, whether you’re correct or not. I find this greatly improves and aides in decision making, as you’re naturally used to picking apart and analysing things in many different styles and at the very least you gain an insight to how other peoples minds work in life; even when the answer is put in front of someone and explained, they may still have a completely different outlook to you.
Being smart is taken for granted a lot more than we account for. Being smart isn’t always being clever, and you mustn’t take for granted the fact that because you’re right; you always will be. Sometimes we forget that the journey we’re on can change at any second. You never know when the tables are going to turn and the shoe will be on the other foot. Just because we’ve been successful before, doesn’t mean we always will be. Once we’ve achieved something and we start progressing in a direction we often think that because we’ve put the hard work and dedication to get to this point you no longer need that commitment to your cause. As you all know this process of thought seldom works and we find ourselves becoming complacent and inconsistent. Of course, it’s difficult to maintain a motivated approach to cause 24/7, I often find myself procrastinating and deviating from the task at hand, after all there is now so many distractions in life to deter you. I think that’s one of the biggest problems in life, we all get so caught up in the general day-to-day activities of the norm we forget about the bigger picture.

Remain humble, remain grounded.

20th September 2016 – Quote of the day

It’s funny, we spend such a small amount of time in this crazy messed up world. Yet we always find ourselves letting it slip away in such a preposterous manner it’s uncanny. Too much we dwell on the past, on issues that when you look back weren’t all that much of an issue and for what??

“So many people get involved with carrying grudges and having these moral battles with people, where they cast themselves as the righteous and the other guy is the dirtbag. They waste tons of energy on it, create all kinds of darkness around themselves and the other person. It gets you nothing.” – Stephen J Cannell

12th September 2016 – Quote of the day

So I recently unearthed a little gem called Poor Richard’s Almanac, by Benjamin Franklin, a collection of periodicals were issued from 1732 to 1757. They contain humour, information, and proverbial wisdom. Some of the quotes seem really ahead of their time, definitely a high recommendation!

“If you would not be forgotten
As soon as you are dead and rotten,
Either write things worth reading,
Or do things worth the writing.”
– Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard’s Almanack 1738

Quality YOU time!

Hey guys and girls! How are we all?

I know it’s been a while since my last proper blog, but it’s been a bit of a busy time at work with summer (not that we’ve had much of that!), so forgive me please.

To quote Newton’s Third Law – For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Life comes with its high’s and low’s, I’m yet to meet a person who is always on a buzz with no down time, it’s how we deal with the low’s and what you do to keep yourself on the right track in life (I mean this in the literal sense to your own personal agenda, no one really knows what track we’re supposed to be heading down, do they?)

Stress, fatigue, repetitiveness, grief, isolation … just a few things that can bum a vibe! I personally find stress gets to me the most. I find the universe bottles up as many things as it can find to niggle at my stress levels and throws them at me all at once, it’s never just one problem at a time is it? These will be things like work, money, cars, trying to balance everything into my life … don’t worry I’m not going to indulge in all of my life problems, maybe a different day 🙂

I’m rather fortunate, I work in an office with a few bodies and most of my down time is spent in the gym or with my friends, so I actually spend a rather small amount of time alone. Due to having a small amount of alone time this gives me reason to utilise that time and make it all about me. Obviously everybody is different, but for me personally this time is key to reflect and relate on the happenings of the world and my world. I will usually kick back and put a chilled playlist of music on which really lets me relax, music is massive part of my life so with the right genre it helps me through pretty much any emotion. Sometimes I’ll delve into some meditation and ‘cleanse’ my inner self. Meditation is a topic I’ll write a couple of blogs over the next few months, I honestly can’t tell you how much better it makes me feel, emotionally and physically.

Change the Direction Quote

You always hear of people saying to spend quality time with loved ones, family and friends. What about YOU!? Please never forget yourself.

To repeat what I said earlier, everybody is different. The way you utilise your time will be personal to you. Unfortunately finding what is right for you to relax and unwind is something I cannot help you with, but I’m a really strong believer that if you spend some Quality time on and with yourself you will most definitely feel better about everything.

I would love to hear some feedback on how you achieve this, or if you didn’t before how you are going to try!?

05th August 2016 – Quote of the day

One rule I try to live by in my life is that I try and take a positive out of any situation, no matter how bad that situation is and live with no regrets. I think this quote is a brilliant way to perceive a negative as a positive.

“I am thankful to all of those that have said no, it’s because of them that I did it myself!” – Albert Einstein
